Philadelphia, Pa. - The men's basketball team picked up its first victory of the 2023-2024 season against Holy Family University, 74-68. Molloy improved to 1-4 on the season while HFU fell to 1-4.
How it Happened
- The teams exchanged baskets through much of the first half, tying the game six times in the first 10 minutes.
- Back-to-back three-pointers gave the Tigers a 24-20 advantage with eight minutes left in the half.
- The home team's lead would increase to as much as eight, 35-27, with less than three minutes to play.
- A three-pointer from freshman Rob Matos paired with foul shooting from freshman Manu Alford and graduate student Jalen Rosemond would end the half on a 6-0 run for the Lions to trail by two, 35-33, at the break.
- The Lions took a 41-39 lead early in the se
- cond half on three points from both Matos and junior Billy Reyes.
- The game would be tied at 58 with under five minutes to play before a 10-3 run put Molloy in front, 68-61.
- The Tigers would come within four, but the Lions would not relinquish the lead to earn the first victory of the season.
Top Performances
- Matos led with 22 points, including going 3-of-3 from long distance and 9-of-11 from the foul line. The freshman added six rebounds and topped the team with four assists.
- Rosemond tallied 15 points to go with seven rebounds, one block, and one steal.
- Reyes rounded out Molloy's top scorers with 13 points.
- Graduate student Bobby Connors topped the squad with nine rebounds and four steals while adding three assists.
- Redshirt junior Sey Dieng also dished out three assists, netting five points.
- Junior Mick Browne pulled down seven boards.
