Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team shut out the Lions of Georgian Court University, 1-0, Wednesday evening at John A. Darcy Field. Molloy improves to 4-2-4 on the season, while Georgian Court moves to 2-4-4.
How it Happened
- Defense and possession was the name of the game in the first half, as neither team was able to muster a shot on target through the first 35 minutes.
- Graduate student Lauren Marinello was able to challenge the Georgian Court goalkeeper in the 36th minute with a shot on goal that was saved.
- The Lions continued to look for the back of the net with four shots coming between the 39th and 42nd minute, but all four attempts did not make it on target.
- The contest went to halftime scoreless with Molloy outshooting Georgian Court, 7-0.
- The opening two minutes of the second half saw senior Joanna Mauceri and sophomore Olivia Ingenito generate chances, but both of their shots were blocked by the Georgian Court back line.
- The road team generated its only shot on goal of the contest in the 58th minute, but freshman Elyse Muñoz was able to make the save to keep the game without a score.
- 10 minutes later following a foul just to the left of the 18-yard box, Molloy capitalized.
- Senior Sarah Tappeto hovered over the ball, struck it and was able to get it through the hands of the Georgian Court goalkeeper and into the net to give Molloy a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.
- The cardinal and white would hold Georgian Court without a shot for the remainder of the half and go on to win the contest, 1-0.

- Tappeto netted her fourth goal of the season.
- Senior Natalia Piotrowski and Ingenito paced the team with three shots.
- In goal, Muñoz made one save to collect her first career shutout.
