Lauren Marinello in the 82
nd minute, lifted the Molloy women's soccer team past the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park. The Lions clinch the fourth-seed in the East Coast Conference Championship and conclude the regular season 8-4-5 overall and 4-2-2 in East Coast Conference play while the Dolphins finish the season 4-7-4 and 2-5-1 in league play.
How it Happened
- The Lions looked to jump out to an early lead 39 seconds in, but sophomore Olivia Ingenito had her shot go high of target.
- Junior Alessandra Borsellino created a scoring chance six minutes later, but her shot was denied by Staten Island goalkeeper Sara Villacres.
- Freshman Elyse Muñoz was tested in the 13th minute making a save to keep the contest scoreless.
- Ingenito challenged the Staten Island goalkeeper in the 18th minute, but Villacres made a save.
- Junior Sarah Tappeto looked to crack the scoreboard in the 25th minute as her shot hit the post, keeping zeroes on the scoreboard.
- Graduate student Caitlin Kennedy would have the final shot on target of the half in the 29th minute, but her shot was saved, sending the match into halftime without a score.
- 4:02 into the second stanza the home team looked to pull in front, but Muñoz made a save in net.
- In the 56th minute, freshman Victoria Bustamante created a chance with a shot on target that was saved.
- The Dolphins created space for a shot in the 65th minute, but the chance did not make it on target.
- In the 66th minute, Ingenito generated a chance with a shot that went just left of target.
- Marinello would break through in the 82nd minute, netting the game-winning goal to clinch the 1-0 victory.
