Piotrowski Tallies Brace; Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Jefferson

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Three goals in the opening 13 minutes was more than enough for the Molloy women's soccer team to defeat the Rams of Jefferson University Wednesday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improve to 7-4-5 overall, while the Rams move to 9-3-2 overall.

How it Happened
  • The first shot of the afternoon came 2:13 into the contest when sophomore Olivia Ingenito had her shot blocked.
  • Three minutes later following a deflected shot by Molloy, junior Natalia Piotrowski settled the ball down to her right foot and blasted a goal from 25-yards out to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 10th minute after winning a free-kick, senior Sarah Tappeto sent in the ball into the box and after a high bounce, Piotrowski found the ball with her head and lifted over the Jefferson goalkeeper to extend the Lions lead, 2-0.
  • After having her shot blocked inside the box by a hand ball, Ingenito was chosen to take a penalty kick in the 13th minute. The sophomore stepped to the spot and put it into the bottom right corner of the net, to give Molloy a 3-0 advantage.
  • Jefferson would tally its first shot on goal in the 21st minute, but freshman goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz made the save.
  • Piotrowski looked to collect her hat trick in the 23rd minute, blasting a 25-yard shot from straight ahead, but the shot rang off the crossbar.
  • The Rams looked to crack the scoreboard three minutes later, but Muñoz made a second save to keep the visitors scoreless.
  • Jefferson had one more opportunity blocked in the last 45 seconds of the first half, sending the game to halftime with Molloy in front, 3-0.
  • The visiting team opened the second half with a pair of chances, but neither shot landed on target.
  • In the 71st minute, Tappeto looked for a chance to score from distance, but her shot was saved in net.
  • In the 82nd minute sophomore Mikaela Barriga saw her first action since mid-September had her shot saved.
