Women’s Soccer Plays Queens to Scoreless Draw

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team went the distance against the Knights of Queens College, playing to a 0-0 draw Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. Molloy moves to 6-4-5 overall and 3-2-2 in East Coast Conference play, while the Knights move to 5-6-4 overall and 2-3-2 in league play.
 
Prior to the start of the contest, the program celebrated its members of the senior class: Shannon Kilian (management), Caitlin Kennedy (finance), Natalia Piotrowski (biology), Jackie Murphy (criminal justice), Leyla Kalmaz (education), and Erin Fogarty (interdisciplinary studies).
 
How it Happened
  • The first shot on goal of the contest came from the Lions in the seventh minute. Graduate student Caitlin Kennedy fired a shot, but the attempt was saved by Queens goalkeeper Erin Kelly.
  • Freshman Madison Keenan was able to generate a chance with a header in the 12th minute, but the attempt went wide of the near post.
  • The Knights were able to get a shot on the scoresheet in the 20th minute. Julia Ragone challenged senior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian, but the netminder made the save.
  • Senior Sarah Tappeto fired a shot in the 30th minute that hit the outside of the far post, keeping the contest scoreless.
  • The final chance of the opening stanza came from sophomore Olivia Ingenito in the 35th minute. Her shot went wide of target, sending the contest into halftime, 0-0.
  • Freshman Isabella Muro opened the second half with a chance 67 seconds in, but her shot went high of target.
  • Junior Natalia Piotrowski was able to create space and fire a shot in the 55th minute. The shot went wide left of the net.
  • Seven minutes later Muro generated a scoring chance firing a shot, but the attempt was denied keeping the Lions off the scoreboard.
  • The Knights saw its second and final shot of the afternoon get blocked by the Lions backline in the 70th minute.
  • In the 85th minute, graduate student Lauren Marinello made a run at the near side post looking for the go-ahead goal, but her shot was sent wide of target.
  • The best chance of the contest came in the 88th minute. Following a corner by the Lions, the ball was played by the Knights defender back towards the back post and what looked to be an own goal was cleared away by another defender keeping the contest knotted at zero.
  • One minute later, Kennedy had the final chance for the cardinal and white, but her shot went wide as the game would finish in a scoreless draw.
Top Performances
  • Tappeto paced the team with four shots.
  • Muro and Kennedy totaled one shot on goal apiece.
  • In goal, Kilian made one save and freshman Elyse Muñoz played the second half but wasn't forced to make save.
  • The Lions outshot the Saints 13-2.

Molloy will return to John A. Darcy Field for a non-conference matchup against Jefferson Wednesday (Oct. 25). Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
