Lead Slips Away From Men's Basketball Against Bloomfield

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell to the Bears of Bloomfield College this afternoon from Quealy Gymnasium, 92-83. The loss sets the Lions at 5-11 on the campaign while Bloomfield improved to 8-6 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Bears took a 9-8 lead through the first three minutes of the contest. 
  • Molloy responded with a 17-6 run that featured eight points from senior William Muller, putting the home team in front, 25-10, with 12 minutes to play in the first half.
  • Bloomfield would come within six before five points from graduate student Jalen Rosemond and two from sophomore Darren Fergus put the Lions in front by 13, 32-19 with 7:30 on the clock.
  • The visitors netted 18 of the next 23 points to knot the score at 37 on the strength of strong three-point shooting.
  • Sophomore Matt Lane scored four of Molloy's final eight points of the first half to help the Lions take a 45-41 lead into the break.
  • Bloomfield would take a three-point lead after scoring seven unanswered points to open the second half. 
  • The Lions would recover to knot the score at 56 with 14:30 left to play.
  • An 8-2 run from the Bears gave the road team a 64-58 advantage headed into the final 13 minutes of action.
  • Trailing by nine with 12 minutes to play, three-pointers from Fergus and sophomore Billy Reyes would bring the home team within three.
  • In the final six minutes, the cardinal and white went seven-of-eight from the charity stripe, coming within one, 79-78, but were unable to get past the Bears' offense. 
Top Performances
  • Muller led the Lions with 18 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field to go with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
  • Fergus notched his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds while leading Molloy with six assists.
  • Reyes netted 10 points while redshirt junior Kendell Ogilvie chipped in 12 from the bench to round out the Lions' leading scorers. 
  • Sophomore Kenny Lazo led the squad with three steals while Rosemond put up two blocks.

Molloy will return to East Coast Conference play on Wednesday (Jan. 11) against the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia at 7:00 p.m. from Quealy Gymnasium.
