Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Saints of D'Youville University, 56-40, Sunday afternoon inside Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions move to 3-17 overall and 2-9 in ECC play, while the Saints improve to 7-10 overall and 6-4 in league play.
How it Happened
- Four points from freshman Casey Campo and a layup from junior Trinity Hudson had the game knotted at six, 3:29 into the contest.
- D'Youville closed the first quarter on a 9-3 run to take a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.
- Following a layup from Hudson, freshman Sophia Yearwood drained back-to-back three-point baskets to bring the Lions within one, 18-17, with 6:47 remaining in the second stanza.
- The road team responded with an 11-0 rally to extend its lead to 12, 29-17, with 2:15 to play in the first half.
- Molloy trailed, 29-19, heading into halftime.
- A layup from freshman Rosa Rizzitelli and a free-throw from sophomore Samantha Muller closed the Lions deficit to nine, 31-22, 3:28 into the second half.
- Over the next four minutes of action, the Saints compiled a 11-0 run to take a commanding 42-22 lead with 2:31 to play in the third quarter. The Lions headed into the fourth behind, 46-26.
- The Cardinal and White outscored the Saints 14-10 in the final stanza, but D'Youville would go on to solidify the victory, 56-40.
