Mastrocco Scores in Field Hockey OT Loss to Bentley

Seaford, N.Y. - The field hockey team fell, 2-1, in overtime this afternoon to Bentley University from Cedar Creek Park. The Lions fell to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the Falcons improved to 4-4 (2-1 NE10).

How it Happened
  • Through the first five minutes of action, the Molloy offense controlled the ball, firing three shots, but only one from freshman Gianna Mastrocco was able to get through to the net before being saved by Bentley goalie Mia Trottie.
  • The final 10 minutes of the first quarter belonged to the Falcons, including forcing sophomore goalie Kelsey Price to make two saves in the final 10 seconds off a penalty corner.
  • The Falcons continued to maintain possession through the second quarter, totaling eight shots, including five that were on goal and stopped by Price.
  • Neither team were able to push a ball into the net through the first 45 minutes of action.
  • Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Molloy had drawn two penalty corners, firing three shots before Mastrocco finished a feed from fellow freshman Alessandra Vidal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • The visitors would respond with an equalizer just five minute later as Hannah Blomquist pushed the ball into the left side of the net off a penalty corner.
  • Both squads had opportunities in the final two minutes, as junior Kassandra Sakhat had a shot blocked before Meagan Hayes had one go just wide for the Falcons, forcing an overtime period.
  • Just over one minute into the extra frame, Lida Coco intercepted a pass from the Molloy defense before dribbling the ball five yards and pushing it past the goalie on the left side to earn the victory.
Top Performances
  • Mastrocco tallied her second goal of the season while Vidal picked up her second assist.
  • Mastrocco and graduate student Lizzie Weiner both had two shots on goal while Vidal had one.
