Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team fell to the 21
st-ranked Mercy College Mavericks, 5-1, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to
7-2-1 overall and 3-1 in ECC play, while the Mavericks improved to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy had the first scoring chance of the contest when senior Sienna Nicolich had her shot saved by Mercy goalkeeper Kamy Anaya.
- After a pair of shots were blocked, Mercy forward Ancksu Dixon found the back of the net in the 33rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
- Dixon added her second goal of the afternoon in the 43rd minute.
- Molloy trailed, 2-0, heading into halftime.
- The Lions looked to cut the lead in half in the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, but shots by graduate student Morgan Camarda and junior Eleni Sofroniou were denied.
- The road team added its third goal of the contest in the 61st minute to go ahead, 3-0.
- In the 72nd minute Molloy earned a corner kick; Nicolich took the corner and had her kick deflect off a defender and into the net cutting the deficit to two 3-1.
- Mercy defender Jessica Hoyt netted two goals in the final 13 minutes to solidify the victory, 5-1.
