Springfield, Mass. - The field hockey team opened Northeast-10 Conference play this afternoon, falling 2-1 to American International College. The loss drops the Lions to 1-3 on the season (0-1 NE10) while the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-3 (1-0 NE10).
How it Happened
- The Yellow Jackets tallied the first goal of the game in the opening seven minutes of action.
- The Lions offense took control for the next two minutes, drawing two penalty corners before sophomore Alexa Denis netted Molloy's lone goal of the afternoon just after the nine minute mark of the first quarter, knotting the score 1-1.
- After a shot-less second quarter on either side, the contest remained tied at the half.
- AIC scored in the first four minutes of the third frame to take the lead, 2-1.Â
- Despite outshooting the home team in the third quarter, Molloy was unable to tie the contest.
- Sophomore Gianna Festa stopped all three shots on goal from the Yellow Jackets in the final quarter to keep the Lions within one, but time would ultimately expire with AIC in front, 2-1.
