Barriga Nets Hat Trick in Women’s Soccer Victory over Lincoln

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team saw nine players find the back of the net, as they defeated the Lions of Lincoln University, 14-0, Wednesday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 7-1-1 overall and 3-0 in ECC play, while Lincoln dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.
 
How it Happened
  • Molloy outshot Lincoln 42-0 in the contest.
  • The Lions netted five goals in the opening 25 minutes of the game, two from freshman Mikaela Barriga, and one each from seniors Sienna Nicolich, and Joanna Graca, and junior Erin Fogarty.
  • Freshman Olivia Ingenito netted her first collegiate goal in the 26th minute.
  • 1:10 apart from each other, junior Lindsey McCarthy, and senior Lexi Verni found the back of the net.
  • Molloy was up 8-0 heading into the break.
  • Verni scored her second goal of the contest to kick-off the second half to push Molloy ahead, 9-0.
  • Barriga completed her hat trick in the 68th minute.
  • Sophomore Nicole Fabris tallied goals in the 71st and 75th minute.
  • Freshman Leyla Kalmaz scored two goals in a 1:11 span to seal the game, 14-0.

  • Barriga totaled three goals for her first career hat trick.
  • Verni tallied two goals and one assist.
  • Ingenito and Kalmaz collected their first goals of their collegiate careers.
  • Junior Sarah Tappeto dished out three assists.
  • Fogarty added one goal and two assists.

Molloy returns to John A. Darcy Field Saturday, September 24th for a much-anticipated match against ECC rival Mercy College. Kick-off against the Mavericks is set for 3:00 p.m.
