Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The field hockey team fell to Mercy College, 3-2, this afternoon at Mercy Field. The loss drops the Lions to 1-2 on the season while the Mavericks improve to 1-0.
How it Happened
- The Molloy defense was dominant in the first seven minutes of the game. Sophomore Gianna Festa made a save on the lone shot she faced in the opening frame.
- With just over 90 second remaining in the first quarter, freshman Cat Amini tapped in a feed from sophomore Alexa Denis for her first collegiate goal, putting the Lions in front, 1-0.
- Mercy knotted the score in the opening minutes of the second quarter and it would remain tied at the half.
- After nearly an entirely scoreless third quarter, the Mavericks struck again to take the 2-1 advantage.
- Freshman Gianna Mastrocco netted her first collegiate goal midway through the fourth frame to tie the contest, 2-2.
- Just one minute later, the Mavericks netted a penalty stroke to take the lead.
- The Lions would draw two penalty corners but were unable to put any attempts on net before time expired.
