Sparkill, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team shutout the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field. The Lions improved to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in ECC play, while the Spartans moved to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Morgan Camarda put the first shot on goal of the contest in the fifth minute.
- Junior Sarah Tappeto created an opportunity in the 14th minute, but her shot was stopped.
- One minute later, junior Eleni Sofroniou netted the first goal of the contest off a feed from Camarda. Molloy led, 1-0.
- The Molloy offense continued to pressure the Spartans back line over the next 20 minutes of action. The Lions attack threw put together six shots, including four on goal, but the game remained, 1-0.
- In the 38th minute, Molloy added to their lead. Senior Sienna Nicolich found the back of the net off a pass from senior Joanna Graca to extend Molloy's advantage to, 2-0, going into halftime.
- The second half began with Molloy being fouled in the 18-yard box. Sofroniou stepped to the penalty spot and buried her second goal of the afternoon to push the Lions ahead, 3-0.
- In the 78th minute, senior Erin Fogarty netted her first goal of the contest with an assist from senior Lexi Verni. Molloy extended its lead to 4-0.
