Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team and the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights played to a 1-1 draw Thursday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to 5-1-1, while the Purple Knights moved to 3-3-1.
How it Happened
- Molloy generated the first shot on goal of the contest, when junior Sarah Tappeto sent a free kick that was saved by Bridgeport goalkeeper Clara Karlsson.
- Bridgeport responded with a pair of opportunities inside the box, but both shots were saved by junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian.
- In the 42nd minute, a free kick from Bridgeport hit the cross bar and the rebound was put in from Morgan Dodge to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
- Seven minutes into the second half, sophomore Alessandra Borsellino had her shot blocked.
- Defense was the name of the game over the next 15 minutes of action, as neither back line allowed any chances.
- In the 71st minute, a free kick taken by Tappeto found the head of junior Eleni Sofroniou, who found the back of the net to knot the contest at one.
- Bridgeport garnered the final chance of the contest, when Kate Thill snuck behind the backline, but the opportunity was saved by Kilian. The game would end at a 1-1 draw.
