Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Half Surge Leads #15 Women’s Soccer past CSI in ECC-Opener

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – On the back of five goals in the second half, the 15th ranked Molloy women's soccer team took down the College of Staten Island Dolphins, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in ECC play, while the Dolphins fell to 0-4-1 and 0-1 in league play.
 
How it Happened
  • Sophomore Nicole Fabris had an opportunity in the fourth minute, but her shot was saved by CSI goalkeeper Sara Villacres.
  • Following a hydration break, junior Erin Fogarty sent a shot wide.
  • Senior Sienna Nicolich looked to break the scoreboard in the 27th minute, but was denied.
  • Molloy had a pair of corner kicks to end the first half but was unable to convert. The game was without a score going into halftime.
  • Molloy broke through coming out of halftime in the 52nd minute. At 51:10 the Lions netted their first goal on an own-goal.
  • With 51:36 on the clock, graduate student Morgan Camarda sent the ball into the box off the right side, found the head of Nicolich, who found the back of the net to increase the lead to 2-0.
  • 23 seconds later, CSI was called for a foul in the box setting up a penalty kick for the Lions. Freshman Mikaela Barriga stepped to the penalty spot and scored her second goal of the season, bringing Molloy's lead to 3-0.
  • In the 62nd minute, Molloy had another chance from the penalty spot following a foul from the Dolphins backline. Camarda took this penalty and buried it in the upper-90 to put Molloy ahead, 4-0.
  • Five minutes later, a free kick from junior Sarah Tappeto found the head of Nicolich who netted her second goal of the contest to seal the game, 5-0, in favor of Molloy. 
Top Performances
  • Nicolich totaled two goals.
  • Camarda tallied her first goal of her Lions career and added an assist.
  • Barriga netted her second goal of the season.
  • In goal, junior Shannon Kilian made three saves to clinch her fifth shutout of the season.
Up Next
Molloy will wrap up their four game homestand against the University of Bridgeport Thursday, September 15th. Kick-off against the Purple Knights is set for 7:00 p.m.
