Wilmington, Del. – On the back of stellar defense and a goal from senior
Lexi Verni, the Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Falcons of Bentley University, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Wilmington University Athletics Complex. The Lions improved to 2-0, while the Falcons fell to 0-1-1.
How it Happened
- The Molloy offense wasted no time putting pressure on the Bentley backline. Outshooting the Falcons 6-1 in the first 15 minutes of action.
- Bentley responded with three shots on goal, but junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian stopped all three attempts to keep the contest scoreless.
- A shot from Verni and two shots from sophomore Nicole Fabris at the end of the first half were saved by Bentley goalkeeper Claire Ewen. The game remained scoreless heading into halftime.
- 2:06 into the second stanza, Verni found the back of the net off a pass from senior Sienna Nicolich to put the Lions ahead, 1-0.
- The Falcons created an opportunity in the 58th minute, but Kilian put an end to a chance with a save to keep Molloy ahead.
- Bentley continued its attack eight minutes later with another scoring chance, but Kilian denied the opportunity.
- With under nine minutes to play, Bentley, created their final chance to knot the contest at one, but was denied as Kilian made her fourth save of the second half and secured the Molloy victory, 1-0.
