Ticket Punched! #2 Molloy Tops #6 Franklin Pierce to Earn Berth in NCAA Super Regional

Uniondale, N.Y. – The #2 Molloy baseball team defeated the #6 Franklin Pierce Ravens, 6-4, Sunday afternoon at Mitchel Field to advance to the NCAA East Super Regional. The Lions improved to 39-13, while the Ravens finished the season 31-17.

How it Happened
  • Redshirt senior Thomas Brady grounded into a fielder's choice, which made scored senior Vincent Pecora and made it 1-0 in the top of the first.
  • The Ravens answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Randy Flores hit a solo home run to left field, and graduate student Charles Lebron hit an RBI single to center field.
  • Molloy used a three-run fourth inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Senior Patrick Hoffman and sophomore Chris Einemann hit RBI doubles, and graduate student Peter Theodorellis hit an RBI single to center.
  • Junior Joel Lara hit a solo home run to left to cut the Lions' lead to 4-3.
  • In the seventh, graduate student Matt Overton scored on an error to increase the maroon and white's lead to 5-3.
  • FPU scored in the bottom of the stanza to make it a 5-4 contest.
  • Molloy added an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI single from senior David Franchi.
Top Performances
  • Franchi tallied four hits, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
  • Senior Vincent Pecora recorded three hits and scored a run.
  • Theodorellis, Brady, and Einemann all registered two hits and drove in one run.
  • Graduate student Brian Morrisey pitched six innings, three runs, two earned, and struck out four to pick up his second win of the season.
  • Junior Charlie Cucchiara threw two innings and fanned one batter for his first career save.
