ECC Baseball Championship Preview: #1 Molloy vs. #4 STAC

Uniondale, N.Y. – The top-seeded Molloy baseball team takes on the fourth-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans in the first round of the ECC Championship at Mitchel Field.
 
About Molloy:
  • The Lions finished the regular season 32-11 overall and 16-2 in conference play, the 32 wins are the most in a regular-season in program history.
  • Molloy won its first East Coast Conference Championship last season.
  • All-Conference First Team selection Thomas Brady leads the Lions in hitting, sporting a .364 batting average with 60 hits tied for second in the conference. The redshirt senior is fourth in the ECC in RBI (38).
  • Junior David Franchi who was named to the All-ECC Second Team has driven in 36 runs on the campaign good for sixth in the conference, he is also one of two players to have played and started in all 43 contests.
  • All-ECC First Team honoree senior Matt Overton is second in the ECC in doubles (19), fifth in slugging percentage (.561), tied for sixth in home runs (6), eighth in RBI (35), and 11th in batting average (.354).
  • Sophomore Chris Einemann is second in the conference with 40 RBI, and fourth in doubles (14).
  • Atop the lineup, All-ECC First Team selection senior Vincent Pecora leads the ECC in stolen bases (33) and is third in runs scored (42). 
  • On the mound, ECC Pitcher of the Year junior Charlie Cucchiara is tied for second in the conference with seven wins, third in ERA (2.88), and is the only player to have started at least 10 games without recording a loss.
  • Graduate student Mike Andreoli leads the ECC with nine wins while earning All-ECC First Team honors.
  • Billy Wildeman, who was named to the All-ECC Second Team, has recorded seven wins on the season tying for second with Cucchiara in the conference. The graduate student is fifth in the ECC in strikeouts (63) and ERA (3.34).
  • Graduate student Brian Morrisey is tied for third in the ECC with four saves.
Postseason History:
  • The second-seeded Lions defeated the top-seeded Spartans to win the ECC Championship last season.
  • Molloy won game one, 4-3, and completed the sweep winning, 2-1, in game two at Mitchel Field.
  • The maroon and white earned the third-seed in the NCAA East Regional.
STAC: 
  • The Spartans finished the regular season 22-21 overall and 14-7 in ECC play.
  • Andrew Guerra leads the lineup hitting .337, but Andrew Jemison paces the team in hits (56), RBI (36), and stolen bases (12).
  • John Archer has five wins to lead the pitching staff, while Aaron Dona has struckout a league-leading 81 batters.
  • Molloy is 54-43 all-time against STAC. The Lions took two-of-three from the Spartans earlier this year April 1 – April 2. 
The Field:
 
#2 Queens:
  • The Knights finished the regular season 24-15 overall and 15-6 in conference play.
  • Louis Antos (.430) and Marc Cisco (.429) are first and second, respectively in batting average in the ECC. Cisco also leads the conference with 46 RBI and nine home runs.
  • On the mound, Julien Acros holds a 5-2 record and is third in the ECC in strikeouts (71).
  • Molloy is 65-31 all-time against Queens. The Lions swept a three-game series with the Knights this season, April 29 – April 30.
#3 Mercy:
  • The Mavericks finished the regular season 21-23-1 overall and 14-7 in ECC play.
  • Jaden Caballero paces the lineup hitting .376 with 65 hits, 14 doubles, and 20 stolen bases. Nolan Giblin leads the team with 36 RBI, and is tied for fourth in the conference with six home runs.
  • Kevin Seckler and Jonathan Diforio have earned five wins apiece to lead the pitching staff. Diforio paces the team with 51 strikeouts, while Kuzari Jocelyn has recorded three saves.
  • Molloy is 66-28-1 all-time against Mercy. The Lions took two-of-three from the Mavericks this season April 8 – April 9.
