Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Mercy Mavericks, 11-3 and 5-3, Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field. The Lions improved to 21-9 overall and 7-2 in ECC play, while the Mavericks fell to 12-17-1 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Game One: Molloy 11, Mercy 3
- The Lions jumped ahead 2-0 in the fourth on an RBI single from junior David Franchi and a sac fly from senior Patrick Hoffman, which scored sophomore Garrett Scavelli.
- In the sixth, Hoffman scored two runs on an RBI single, and sophomore Gavin McAlonie hit an RBI double to increase the advantage to 5-0.
- Sophomore Chris Einemann scored on a wild pitch in the eighth, which made it 6-0.
- Mercy scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
- The maroon and white used a five-run ninth inning to take an 11-2 lead. With the bases loaded, Einemann walked and senior Vincent Pecora was hit by a pitch, graduate student Peter Theodorellis hit a two-RBI single, and redshirt senior Thomas Brady hit an RBI single.
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli threw a complete game, allowed three runs on six hits, and struck out three to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Game Two: Molloy 5, Mercy 3
- In the second, sophomore Chris Einemann hit a two-RBI triple to make it 2-0, Later in the frame, senior Robby Keane hit a sac fly, which scored Einemann and extended the advantage to 3-0.
- Graduate student Matt Overton hit a sac fly, which scored Theodorellis to make it 4-0 in the third.
- Mercy scored a run in the fourth.
- Brady hit a sac fly, which scored Theodorellis in the fifth to make it 5-1.
- Graduate student Billy Wildeman threw 6 innings gave up three runs on 10 hits and fanned two batters to improve to 4-1.
- Freshman Connor Huckemeyer recorded three outs in the seventh for his first career save.
