Michaels Sets Single-Game Saves Record; Ford Nets Double-Overtime Winner Against Roberts Wesleyan

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy men's lacrosse team topped the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks, 9-8, in double overtime Saturday afternoon on senior day at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions finished the regular season 7-9 overall and 4-2 in ECC play, while the Redhawks moved to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Graduate students Jack Egan and Nick Del Giorno netted goals to put Molloy ahead 2-0.
  • The Redhawks scored the next three and led 3-2 at the end of the first frame.
  • Sophomore Chris Delaney, junior Ryan Downing, and sophomore Adam Hyman found the back of the net to give the Lions a 5-3 advantage.
  • The home team led 5-4 at the break.
  • Egan and Hyman scored two of the first three goals of the third quarter to make it 7-5.
  • Molloy led 7-6 after 45 minutes of play.
  • The Redhawks jumped ahead 8-7 with 5:38 left.
  • Freshman Mike D'Amato even the score, 8-8. With 4:10 left.
  • Freshman Christian Michaels made two saves in the first overtime to keep the game tied.
  • In the second extra session, senior Brian Ford found the back of the net sending the enthusiastic Rockville Centre crowd happy.
Top Performances
  • Delaney tallied a game-high five points (one goal and four assists).
  • Freshman Bryan Diliberto (two assists), Egan (two goals), Hyman (two goals), and Del Giorno (one goal and one assist) tallied two points each.
  • Graduate student Sean Daly caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
  • Michaels made 24 saves, which tied the program's single-game record set against Southern New Hampshire.
