Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Queens Knights, 17-7 and 10-4, Saturday afternoon on senior day at Mitchel Field. The Lions, who clinched the top seed in the ECC Championship, improved to 31-11 overall and 16-2 in ECC play, while the Knights fell to 21-14 overall and 13-5 in conference play. The 31 wins tied a program record.
Game One: Molloy 17, Queens 7
- The Lions' energetic offense scored six runs in the first inning. Redshirt senior Thomas Brady hit an RBI double to right-center. Sophomore Garrett Scavelli scored Brady with a sac fly. Senior Patrick Hoffman hit an RBI single to left, junior David Franchi scored on an error, and senior Robby Keane capped the rally with a two-RBI single to left-center.
- In the second, Scavelli hit an RBI single to center, Franchi hit an RBI double to right-center, and later scored on a balk to make it 9-0.
- With the score 9-2, Hoffman hit an RBI single to center, Pecora hit a two-RBI single to right and scored on an error, and Brady hit an RBI double down the left-field line to increase the advantage to 14-2.
- In the eight, senior Robert Iadanza hit a two-run single, and senior Nicholas DeMicco added an RBI single.
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli pitched six innings, gave up two runs, on one hit, and struck out six to improve to 9-2 on the season. The nine wins tied the program's single-season record.
Game Two: Molloy 10, Queens 4
- After Queens jumped ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, the maroon and white answered with three runs. Scavelli hit a two-RBI double down the right-field line, and Franchi grounded out, which plated Brady,
- Sophomore Anthony Manisero hit an RBI double to right field, and Brady hit a two-RBI single to right to increase the lead to 6-2.
- Queens scored in the third and fourth to cut the advantage to 6-4.
- The Lions used a four-run fifth to make it 10-4. Sophomore Chris Einemann hit a two-run double to left-center, Einemann later scored on an error, and Manisero hit an RBI single to right field.
- Graduate student Billy Wildeman pitched six innings, gave up four runs, on nine hits, and struck out four to improve to 7-1 in 2022.
