Sparkill, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team fell to the Saint Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, 7-2 and 2-1, Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field. The Lions fell to 22-27 overall and 10-10 in East Coast Conference play, while the Spartans improved to 24-18 overall and 17-4 in league play.
Game One: Molloy 2, STAC 7
- In the second inning, freshman Natalie Moussa doubled into right field that brought home the game's first run to give Molloy a 1-0 lead.
- The Spartans knotted the contest at one in the bottom of the fourth following an RBI single.
- STAC added three runs in the fifth to push ahead, 4-1.
- The home team tacked on three more runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 7-1.
- In the top of the seventh, freshman Cheralyn Dusharme smoked a home run to left field to bring Molloy within five, 7-2, but STAC would hold off the Lions offense and go on to win game one, 7-2.
Game Two: Molloy 1, STAC 2
- Senior Alex Burns kicked off game two with a lead-off home run giving Molloy a 1-0 advantage.
- Through the first four innings of play, senior Amanda King allowed just one hit inside the circle, keeping the Lions ahead, 1-0, heading into the fifth inning.
- In the bottom half of the fifth, STAC broke through with a pair of RBI singles to pull ahead, 2-1.
- Molloy looked to respond in the top of the sixth, Burns, and junior Steph Conrade singled to put runners on first and second. But the Spartans wouldn't allow the Lions any further, as the Spartans kept the Lions at bay to close out the game, 2-1.
