Buffalo, N.Y. – The Molloy men's lacrosse team regained its winning way defeating D'Youville, 23-9, Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field. The Lions improve to 6-9 overall and 3-2 in ECC play, while the Saints fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.
How it Happened
- The Lions began the contest quickly with goals from graduate student Jack Egan and sophomore Adam Hyman to give the road team a 2-0 lead.
- Molloy continued its scoring run adding two more goals to its lead, 4-0, from freshman Mike D'Amato on a man-up opportunity, and sophomore Chris Delaney with 7:49 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Saints halted the Lions run with a goal to cut the deficit to three, 4-1, with 5:22 left in the opening stanza.
- Freshman Ryan Polehinke reestablished Molloy's four-goal lead, 5-1, 10 seconds later.
- D'Youville found the back of the net to end the first quarter with Molloy holding a, 5-2, advantage.
- The maroon and white started the second quarter with a three-goal rally, Delaney netted his second of the contest, and Polehinke tallied his second and third goals of the contest to push the Lions ahead, 8-2.
- After the home team made it, 8-3, the Lions answered with a second three-goal scoring spree, two more coming from Delaney, and junior Ryan Downing got on the scoresheet to increase the Lions lead to eight, 11-3.
- With 3:51 left in the first half, D'Youville scored to make it, 11-4, in favor of Molloy.
- The road team concluded the first half on its third three-goal rally, senior Brian Ford, freshman Bryan Diliberto, and graduate student Nick Del Giorno tallied goals to push Molloy ahead, 14-4, heading into halftime.
- In the first 2:05 of the third quarter, Del Giorno and Diliberto added a goal apiece to increase the Molloy lead to 16-4.
- 29 seconds later, the home team scored on a man-up opportunity to close the deficit to 11, 16-5.
- Molloy responded with three consecutive goals, two coming from Diliberto and the other coming from Ford to take a 19-5 lead.
- The Saints netted three of the final four goals of the quarter, with Molloy holding a, 20-8, lead heading into the final quarter.
- Molloy scored three goals in the first 4:13 of the fourth quarter, with contributions from Hyman, Downing, and junior Sean Plasencia to take a 23-8 lead.
- D'Youville netted the final goal of the contest, with Molloy coming out on top, 23-9.
