Staten Island, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader with the CSi Dolphins, 15-9 and 5-1, Saturday afternoon at the CSI Baseball Complex. The Lions improved to 27-11 overall and 13-2 in conference play, while CSI fell to 9-22 overall and 2-12 in league play.
Game One: Lions 15, CSI 9
- The Lions plated four runs in the top of the first inning. Graduate student Matt Overton brought a run home with a hit by pitch, sophomore Anthony Manisero scored off a wild pitch, redshirt senior Thomas Brady scored off an error, and senior Chris Peralta scored Overton with a sacrifice fly.
- The Dolphins scored a run in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 4-1.
- Molloy added three runs in the fifth, Brady singled home a run, Overton doubled to bring home Brady, and sophomore Chris Einemann brought Overton home with an RBI single to push Molloy ahead, 7-1.
- In the sixth, Brady collected his second RBI with a run-scoring single, and Manisero scored later in the inning off a double play, Molloy held a 9-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
- In the bottom of the sixth, CSI plated two runs off a single, and added three more runs following a three-run homer. After six innings of play, Molloy led, 9-6.
- The maroon and white plated three runs in the eighth and ninth to give them a commanding 15-6 lead.
- CSI closed the game with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, as Molloy went on to take game one, 15-9.
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli went six innings allowing six runs while striking out one to move to 8-2 on the season.
Game Two Molloy 5, CSI 1
- In the first Manisero and senior Vincent Pecora scored on errors to take a 2-0 lead.
- CSI cut the advantage to 2-1 with a run in the third.
- In the fifth, Manisero scored on an error, and junior David Franchi hit an RBI single.
- Pecora hit a home run in the sixth to make it 5-1.
- Graduate student Billy Wildeman pitched a complete game, gave up one run, zero earned, on two hits, and struck out four to move to 6-1 on the season.
