Sparkill, N.Y. – The Molloy men's lacrosse team won its second consecutive contest Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Thomas Aquinas, 11-5. The Lions improve to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Spartans fell to 1-8 and 0-2 in league play.
How it Happened
- The Lions wasted no time scoring, graduate student Nick Del Giorno scored 1:14 into the contest to put Molloy ahead, 1-0.
- STAC knotted the contest at one following a goal from Jack Margetson with 8:06 left in the first quarter.
- Back-to-back goals from junior Ryan Downing and Del Giorno gave Molloy a, 3-1, advantage heading into the second quarter.
- The maroon and white continued its scoring run in the second, graduate student Jack Egan and junior Sean Plasencia netted goals three minutes apart to extend the lead to four, 5-1, with over nine minutes remaining in the first half.
- The home team snapped its scoring drought, scoring a goal with 7:33 left to close the deficit to three, 5-2.
- Egan and Downing closed the half with a goal apiece. Molloy led, 7-2, going into the half.
- With 7:05 remaining in the third quarter, Downing found the back of the net for his third goal of the contest. Molloy held a, 8-2, advantage.
- Egan joined Downing, scoring his third goal of the game to propel Molloy ahead, 9-2, with under three minutes to go in the third.
- Freshman Mike D'Amato netted the first goal of his career to begin the fourth quarter. Molloy led, 10-2, with 12:47 remaining.
- The Spartans scored with a man-up to close the deficit to seven, 10-3, with over 11 minutes to play.
- A minute later, Molloy reclaimed its eight-goal lead, 11-3, following a goal from freshman Robert Gazzano.
- STAC scored the final two goals of the afternoon, with Molloy finishing the contest with an 11-5 victory.
