Greene Homers Twice, Collects Five RBIs in Softball’s Split with Queens

 
Flushing, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team split a doubleheader with the Queens College Knights, 9-6 and 9-10, Tuesday afternoon at QC Softball Field. The Lions moved to 18-23 overall and 9-7 in East Coast Conference play, while the Knights moved to 5-24 and 5-12 in league play.
 
Game One: Molloy 9, Queens 7
  • The Lions started quickly in the first inning, senior Amanda King singled home the game's first run, and graduate student Courtney Greene blasted a three-run home run to give Molloy a 4-0 lead.
  • The home team plated three runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-4 advantage.
  • In the sixth, junior Akemi Poyer reached on a fielder's choice that scored freshman Cheralyn Dusharme, and junior Emma Bachman singled that scored two runs to push the maroon and white ahead, 7-6.
  • Molloy added two runs of insurance in the seventh, junior Karsyn Eaton scored off an error, and senior Marissa Nicoletti singled down the right field line that scored Dusharme. Propelling the road team ahead and closing the contest, 9-6.
  • King pitched 3.2 innings, allowed one run, and struck out two to move to 9-11 on the season.
  • Greene collected three RBIs and scored twice. 
Game Two: Molloy 9, Queens 10
  • The Lions bats started quickly in game two, Eaton ripped a double into left center field that scored senior Alex Burns, and King brought Eaton home with a single to give Molloy an early 2-0 lead.
  • Queens cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the bottom of the frame scoring off a throwing error.
  • In the third, the Lions reclaimed its two-run lead, 3-1, scoring off a fielding error.
  • In the bottom of the third, Queens responded with three runs to take its first lead of the game, 4-3.
  • Senior Alex Burns drilled a two-run home run, junior Steph Conrade scored off an error, and Eaton capped the fourth inning with a solo home run to push the Lions back in front, 7-4.
  • The game went back and forth, as the Knights put together a five-run bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, 9-7.
  • In the fifth, Greene launched her second home run of the afternoon, this time a two-run shot, to tie the contest at nine.
  • The home team scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-9 lead.
  • The game was called due to darkness following the passed ball, with the Knights securing the 10-9 victory.
  • Burns collected three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
  • Eaton totaled two hits, two RBIs, and two runs.

Molloy returns home Thursday, April 21 to host Georgian Court in a non-conference matchup. First pitch from Bob Klein Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
