Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team split a doubleheader with the Dominican Chargers, 8-5 and 4-8, Monday afternoon at Bob Klein Field. The Lions moved to 17-22, while the Chargers moved to 9-15.
Game One: Molloy 8, Dominican 5
- Senior Alex Burns scored on a wild pitch in the first to make it 1-0.
- Dominican took a 2-1 lead in the third.
- Molloy used a six-run fourth inning to go ahead 7-2. Freshman Natalie Moussa started the rally with a home run to left field. Graduate student Courtney Greene scored on a pass ball, Burns hit a two-RBI single, junior Karsyn Eaton hit an RBI single, and senior Amanda King capped the rally with a sac fly, which brought home junior Steph Conrade.
- Conrade hit an RBI single in the sixth to increase the maroon and white's lead to 8-2.
- The away team plated three runs in the seventh.
- King threw a complete game, gave up five runs, four earned, on eight hits, and struck out four to improve to 8-11 on the season.
Game Two: Molloy 4, Dominican 8
- In the first, Eaton scored Burns on a sac fly, and Conrad scored on a fielding error to make it 2-0.
- Burns hit a sac fly, which scored Akemi Poyer and made it 3-0 in the second.
- The Chargers scored one run in the third and two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-3 advantage.
- King hit an RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4, but that was as close as Molloy would get.
