Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Goldey-Beacom Lightning, 9-4, Tuesday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 7-3, while the Lightning fell to 3-14.
How it Happened
- The Lions plated four runs in the first to take a 4-0 advantage. Redshirt senior Thomas Brady hit an RBI single, graduate student Peter Theodorellis scored on a wild pitch, and senior Patrick Hofmann hit a two-RBI single.
- After Goldey-Beacom scored two in the top of the second, sophomore Garrett Scavelli hit an RBI double, and Brady and senior David Franchi each recorded an RBI single to extend the Molloy lead to 7-2.
- Theodorellis drove in senior Robby Keane with an RBI single to right field to make it 8-3.
- The Lightning cut the lead to 8-4 in the top of the sixth.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Hoffman hit an RBI double down the right field line.
Top Performances
- Hoffman drove in three runs and two hits.
- Brady tallied two runs scored, two hits, and two RBIs.
- Scavelli recorded two hits and one RBI, and Keane added two hits.
- Sophomore Ziv Gar threw three innings, gave up two runs, on four hits and struck out three to improve to 1-0 on the season.
- Ryan Karp fanned three batters, and juniors AJ Verga and Richard Gennaro struck out four batters apiece.
