Boca Raton, Fl. – The Molloy baseball team topped the Bloomfield Bears, 7-3, Friday afternoon at the Santaluces Athletic and Aquatic Center. The Lions improved to 8-3 overall, and the Bears fell to 4-7.
How it Happened
- The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Redshirt senior Thomas Brady hit an RBI single to right field to even the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the first.
- Bloomfield went ahead 2-1 in the fourth.
- In the fourth, sophomore Matt Yip hit a sac fly, which scored graduate student Matt Overton. Senior Patrick Hoffman hit an RBI single to right field to put the maroon and white up 3-2.
- After the Bears knotted the score, 3-3, in the eighth, the Lions plated for runs in the bottom half of the frame. Overton and Brady scored on an error, sophomore Chris Einemann hit a sac fly, which scored Yip, and senior Robby Keane drove in a run with an RBI single.
Top Performances
- Keane collected two hits and drove in one run.
- Brady, Yip, Hoffman, and Einemann recorded one RBI each.
- Junior Charlie Cucchiara threw six innings, gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out nine batters.
- Sophomore Ryan Hynes gave up one run, four hits, and fanned one batter to move to 1-0 on the season.
- Junior AJ Verga recorded two strike outs in a scoreless ninth inning.
