Boca Raton, Fla. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the American International College Yellow Jackets, 9-5, Saturday afternoon at the Santaluces Athletic and Aquatic Center. The Lions improved to 9-3 overall, and the Yellow Jackets fell to 5-6.
How it Happened
- Molloy opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when sophomore Matt Yip scored on a double play.
- Graduate student Matt Overton extended the lead to two, 2-0, with an RBI single in the bottom half of the third.
- The Lions put together a five-run inning in the fifth to extend its lead to 7-0. Sophomore Anthony Manisero scored on an error, junior David Franchi plated a pair with a two RBI double, and sophomore Chris Einemann capped the inning with a single that brought home two runners.
- Yip drove in two runs in the sixth that scored Overton and senior Chris Peralta. Molloy led, 9-0.
- AIC scored in the top of the seventh off a two RBI single to cut the deficit to seven, 9-2.
- The Yellow Jackets plated three in the ninth, to end the game, 9-5.
Top Performances
- Franchi collected three hits and drove in two.
- Overton, Yip, and Einemann recorded two hits apiece.
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli threw seven strong innings, gave up two runs, and struck out eight to earn his third win of the season.
- Junior Robert Lucano struck out three in two innings pitched.
