Boca Raton, Fl. – The Molloy baseball team split a doubleheader with the Southern Connecticut Owls Sunday at the Santaluces Athletic and Aquatic Center. The Lions won the first game 15-6, and fell in the second game, 7-5. The maroon and white moved to 10-4, while the Owls moved to 10-1.
Game One Molloy 15, Southern Connecticut 6
- The Owls scored one run in the top of the first.
- In the bottom half of the frame, redshirt senior Thomas Brady hit an RBI single to even the score, 1-1.
- In the fourth, Vincent Pecora and graduate student Vincent Pecora hit RBI singles, and graduate student Matt Overton hit a sacrifice fly, which plated senior Robby Keane, to make it 4-1 Lions.
- After Southern Connecticut cut the advantage to 4-2, the maroon and white scored four runs in the fourth to make it 8-2. Overton hit an RBI double, senior Chris Peralta hit an RBI single, and senior David Franchi hit a two-RBI triple.
- The Owls recorded one run in the seventh and three in the eighth to cut the lead to 8-6.
- Molloy used a seven-run eighth inning to extend the advantage to 15-6. Franchi, who recorded three RBIs, hit a sac fly, senior Patrick Hoffman took a two-RBI single, Theodorellis took an RBI single, Brady walked with the bases loaded, and Overton, who tallied three hits and drove in four runs, hit a two-RBI single.
- Graduate student Billy Wildeman threw seven innings, gave up three runs, on five hits, and struck out eight to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Game Two: Molloy 5 ,Southern Connecticut 7
- Sophomore Chris Einemann hit an RBI single to put the maroon and white ahead 1-0 in the second.
- Overton hit an RBI single in the third, and Keane hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 3-0.
- SCSU plated five runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 advantage.
- Molloy knotted the score, 5-5, in the sixth. Hoffman and Einemann hit RBI singles.
- The Owls scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to increase the lead to 7-5.
