Offense Propels Baseball Past Lynn, 12-4

Boca Raton, Fl. – The Molloy baseball team put together a 12 hit, 12 run performance to defeat Lynn University, 12-4, Tuesday afternoon. The Lions moved to 11-4, while the Fighting Knights moved to 16-7.
 
How it Happened
  • Senior Chris Peralta started the offensive attack with an RBI double to give Molloy an early 1-0 lead.
  • Junior David Franchi followed suit, knocking in Peralta and redshirt senior Thomas Brady to extend the lead to three, 3-0, in the top of the first.
  • Senior Vincent Pecora continued the hot hitting, driving in two runners on a single to center, giving the maroon and white a, 5-0 lead in the top of the second.
  • The Lions scored the next two runs on the base path, taking advantage of two wild pitches to take a commanding 7-0 advantage.
  • Senior Patrick Hoffman drove in Brady on a sac fly, to cap the five-run inning. Molloy led 8-0 heading into the third.
  • Lynn answered with a four-run bottom of the third to bring the Fighting Knights within four, 8-4.
  • Molloy put four additional runs up in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Pecora drove in his third RBI on a double to left, and then later scored along with senior Robby Keane off an error, and graduate student Matt Overton drove in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
  • The game was called after seven, with Molloy securing the 12-4 victory. 
Top Performances
  • Pecora notched two hits, scored twice, and drove in three.
  • Franchi knocked in two RBI's
  • Sophomore Chris Einemann (three hits) and Keane (two hits) each scored a pair of runs.
  • On the mound, sophomore Ziv Gar threw a complete game while striking out three batters to earn his second consecutive win.

Molloy returns home Saturday, March 19 as they prepare to play two against Dominican at Mitchel Field. First pitch for game one is set for 12:00 p.m.
