Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Dominican College Chargers Friday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 13-4, while the Chargers fell to 2-14.
Game One: Molloy 8, Dominican 4
- In the top of the first, Chargers' designated hitter Bobby Garbuio hit a two-run home run to give Dominican an early 2-0 lead. Koo
- In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions cut the lead in half, 2-1, following an RBI single from redshirt senior Thomas Brady.
- Molloy took the lead in the second, a pair of singles from senior Robby Keane and graduate student Peter Theodorellis plated a run each, giving the Lions a 3-2 lead.
- Dominican tied the game at three in the top half of the fourth.
- The Lions plated two in the bottom half of the frame, senior Chris Peralta hit a sacrifice fly, and junior David Franchi ripped an RBI single to right, pushing Molloy ahead, 5-3.
- The away team cut the deficit to one, 5-4, following an RBI single from center fielder Max Chidsey in the fifth.
- The maroon and white put together a three-run bottom of the fifth that would put the Lions ahead, 8-4.
- Senior Vincent Pecora hit a sac fly, Theodorellis lined a triple to left, that scored Keane, and Brady finished the inning with a single that scored Theodorellis.
- Junior Charlie Cucchiara pitched 5 innings and struck out three batters to move to 2-0 on the season.
- Graduate student Brian Morrisey went four scoreless innings while striking out three to collect his first save of the year.
Game Two: Molloy 10, Dominican 2
- The Lions started the contest quickly in the bottom of the first. Theodorellis scored off an error, and senior Patrick Hoffman brought sophomore Matt Yip home putting Molloy ahead, 2-0.
- Pecora hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to give Molloy a, 3-0 lead.
- Dominican put its first runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth, following a single from Richard Paulino cutting the Molloy lead to two, 3-1.
- Molloy put together a five-run bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Hoffman hit an RBI single, sophomore Anthony Manisero knocked in two with a single to left, and sophomore Chris Einemann followed driving in a pair of runners to push the Lions ahead, 8-1.
- Dominican closed the lead to six, 8-2, following a home run from Shane Hewlette.
- Franchi plated the final two runs of the contest with a single to right, to win the game, 10-2.
- On the mound, graduate student Mike Andreoli pitched six innings, gave up two runs, and struck out seven to improve to 4-1 on the season.
- Junior Richard Gennaro pitched a scoreless final frame to close out the victory.
