Baseball Slips Against Dominican

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Dominican Chargers, 10-9, Sunday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions moved to 13-5, while the Chargers improved to 3-14.
 
How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, Dominican notched the first run of the game with an infield single to take a, 1-0, lead in the top of the second.
  • Molloy answered in the bottom of the frame. Following three consecutive walks to load the bases, senior Vincent Pecora ripped a two-RBI single, and graduate student Peter Theodorellis hit an RBI ground rule double to push the Lions ahead, 3-1.
  • The home team added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, Pecora collected his third RBI scoring sophomore Chris Einemann, and Theodorellis crossed the plate off an error. Molloy held a 5-1 advantage at the end of four innings.
  • The Chargers began its comeback in the sixth inning. Bobby Garbuio brought in a run with an RBI triple and later scored to cut the Molloy lead in half, 5-3.
  • In the seventh, Dominican knotted the game at five, off an error and an RBI single from Tyler Patterson.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, junior David Franchi drove an RBI single to left to bring in redshirt senior Thomas Brady, senior Patrick Hoffman drove in two runners with a ground-rule double, and Einemann scored Franchi off a sacrifice fly propelling Molloy ahead, 9-5.
  • The away team brought the contest within two, 9-7, following a two-run home run from center fielder Max Chidsey in the eighth.
  • Dominican hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth, a two-run shot from Richard Paulino, and a solo home run from Gabuio sealed the game, 10-9, in favor of the Chargers.
 
Top Performances
  • Pecora tallied two hits and three RBI's.
  • Franchi recorded a pair of hits while scoring and driving in a run.
  • Hoffman knocked in two RBI's.
  • Graduate student Billy Wildeman threw seven innings, gave up three runs, and struck out eight.

The Lions return to Mitchel Field Wednesday, March 23 to play the University of New Haven. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
