Oxford, Pa. – The Molloy baseball team swept a doubleheader with the Lincoln Lions, 8-4 and 8-2, Saturday afternoon at Oxford High School. The Lions improved to 15-5 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play, while Lincoln fell to 4-19 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Game One: Molloy 8, Lincoln 4
- Lincoln scored the first run of the afternoon off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.
- Sophomore Chris Einemann scored off a wild pitch to knot the contest at one in the top of the third.
- In the top of the sixth, senior Vincent Pecora stole third and advanced to score following a throwing error by the Lincoln catcher, and graduate student Matt Overton blasted a two-run home run to give Molloy a 3-1 lead after six innings.
- The Lions added two more runs in the seventh, redshirt senior Thomas Brady drove in Pecora, and graduate student Peter Theodorellis scored off an error. The maroon and white increased its lead to five, 6-1.
- Lincoln hung a three spot in the bottom of the eighth to close the deficit to two, 6-4.
- In the final frame, Overton ripped a double to right center to score Theodorellis, and Brady crossed the plate following a balk to close out the contest, 8-4.
- Junior Charlie Cucchiara threw eight innings and struck out four to move to 3-0 on the year.
- Graduate student Brian Morrisey threw a scoreless ninth to seal the victory.
Game Two: Molloy 8, Lincoln 2
- Overton hit an RBI single to left to put the Lions ahead 1-0 in the first.
- In the third, Overton and senior Patrick Hoffman tallied RBI singles to increase the advantage to 3-0.
- Lincoln scored in the fourth to make it 3-1.
- The Lions used a five-run sixth inning to increase the lead to 8-1. Sophomore Anthony Manisero walked with the bases loaded, and Brady and Hoffman hit a two-RBI singles.
- Graduate student Mike Andreoli threw five innings and gave up one run, on three hits, and struck out three to improve to 5-1 on the season.
