Sparkill, N.Y. - The men's basketball team's season came to an end this afternoon at Aquinas Hall as the third-seeded Lions were downed by the second-seeded Wildcats of Daemen College, 85-70. Molloy ends the 2021-2022 campaign with a 12-17 record.
How it Happened
- Trailing 8-5 in the opening minute of play, the maroon and white took a 12-8 lead following layups from junior William Muller and senior Steven Torre and a three-pointer from freshman Kenny Lazo.
- Daemen responded with an 8-4 run to knot the contest, 16-16, with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half.
- A 15-7 run in favor of the Wildcats gave Daemen its largest lead of the half, 33-23, with four minutes on the clock.
- Layups from Torre and junior Frankie Phelan cut the deficit to six, 33-27, but Daemen took a 10-point lead into the break, 42-32.
- A layup from Daemen's Andrew Sischo opened the second half, but Muller would be responsible for the contest's next six points to bring the Lions back within six, 44-38.
- That would be as close as the maroon and white would come, however, with the Wildcats maintaining a double-digit lead for the final 10 minutes, eventually earning an 85-70 victory and the right to play for the East Coast Conference Championship tomorrow afternoon.
