Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to top the Adelphi Panthers, 10-9, Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions improved to 5-3 overall, while Adelphi fell to 2-1.
How it Happened
- The Panthers went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first.
- In the third, graduate student Matt Overton hit a three-run home run to left field to put the Lions up 3-2.
- After Adelphi tied the game in the top of the fifth, seniors David Franchi and Chris Peralta drove in runs to make it 5-3 Molloy.
- Ahead 5-4, Overton hit an RBI single to right field to increase the advantage to 6-4.
- The away team cut the lead to 6-5 in the seventh.
- After the Panthers went ahead 9-6 in the ninth, Peralta tied the game with a three-run homer to left, and with the bases loaded, an error scored senior Vincent Pecora to seal the game for the maroon and white.
Top Performances
- Overton drove in four runs, tallied three hits, and scored one run.
- Peralta registered four RBIs, one hit, and one run.
- Franchi recorded a hit and an RBI.
- Sophomore Garrett Scavelli and graduate student Peter Theodorellis collected two hits apiece.
- Theodorellis picked up the win to go 1-0 on the season.
