Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The softball team split a doubleheader with New Haven, winning the first game, 6-1, before falling, 9-4, in the second contest. The Lions now sit at 11-12 overall, while New Haven moves to 9-9.
Game One: Molloy 6, New Haven 1
- Freshman Alaina Spates kicked off the game with a three-run home run over the left field fence in the first, to give Molloy a 3-0 lead.
- In the second, sophomore Chrissie Huhn singled through the left side to extend the Lions' lead to 4-0.
- Graduate student Courtney Greene held the Chargers off the scoreboard through three innings, striking out five of her first nine retired outs.
- New Haven broke the seal in the fourth following a solo home run from catcher Jovanna Hillman. The Chargers trailed, 4-1, after four innings of play.
- In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Katie Hand hit a two-run home run to extend the Molloy lead to five, 6-1.
- Greene was dominate in the circle, pitching a complete game allowing three hits, one run, and struck out nine, tying a season-high, to improve to 7-5.
Game Two: Molloy 4, New Haven 9
- New Haven plated three runs in the first to begin game two.
- The Molloy bats were silent until the bottom of the third, Greene singled home junior Steph Conrade, and Hand knocked in junior Emma Bachman to cut the deficit to one, 3-2, after three innings.
- The Chargers hung a five spot in the following half inning. Two runs came in off a two-run home run from right fielder Hailey Laforte, a sacrifice fly brought in the third run, and a two RBI double capped the inning giving New Haven a, 8-2 lead.
- Molloy closed the deficit to five, 8-3, following an error that scored Conrade ion the bottom of the fourth.
- The away team scored its final run in the top of the fifth to reclaim its six-run lead, 9-3.
- The maroon and white tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh, Hand tallied her fourth hit and fourth RBI of the day with an RBI single that scored Huhn.
- Conrade extended her hitting streak to 10 games.
- Burns has now reached base safely in 15 straight contests.
