Softball Falls to Wilmington

New Castle, Del. – The Molloy softball team was defeated by the Wilmington Wildcats, 2-1 and 10-2, Sunday afternoon at Asbury Field. The Lions moved to 11-14, while the Wildcats improved to 14-10.
 
Game One: Molloy 1, Wilmington 2
  • The home team started the contest with a two-run first inning. Plating runs off an RBI triple and an RBI double.
  • Molloy cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the top of the third. Sophomore Katie Hand singled through the left side that scored sophomore Chrissie Huhn.
  • For the remainder of the game, graduate student Courtney Greene and Wilmington starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel went pitch-for-pitch not allowing any additional scoring from either side.
  • Greene threw a complete game allowing five hits, two runs, and struck out five.
Game Two: Molloy 2, Wilmington 10
  • Wilmington jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • In the following half inning, Molloy knotted the contest at two. Senior Amanda King singled home Greene, and junior Karsyn Eaton scored on an error.
  • The Wildcats reclaimed the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the second following an RBI double.
  • The home team closed the contest scoring seven unanswered runs to win, 10-2, concluding the contest in six innings.
  • Eaton went 3-for-3 and scored a run.
  • Junior Steph Conrade extended her hitting streak to 12. 
Up Next
The Lions will return to ECC competition Tuesday, April 5 to play host to Mercy. The doubleheader from Bob Klein Field is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
