Fourth Quarter Fury Fuels Men’s Lacrosse Victory over Caldwell

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – On the back of a fourth quarter outburst, the Molloy men's lacrosse team defeated the Caldwell Cougars, 10-3, Wednesday evening at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex. Molloy improves to 4-7 with the win, while the Cougars fell to 2-6.
 
How it Happened
  • Defense dominated the opening 12 minutes of action, Caldwell struck first netting a goal on a man-up opportunity to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Freshman goalie Christian Michaels made five saves in the opening stanza. Molloy trailed, 1-0, going into the second quarter.
  • Goalie play on both sides of the field continued throughout the second quarter, as both teams were held off the scoreboard for 13:29.
  • With a man-up opportunity, junior Ryan Downing found the back of the net to knot the score at one going into halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, senior Brian Ford gave Molloy its first lead of the game, 2-1, with over 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Cougars responded, Jayden Paladino tallied a goal to bring the contest all square at two with 6:39 remaining. 
  • The game remained tied, 2-2, heading into the final quarter.
  • Graduate student Jack Egan reclaimed the Molloy lead, 3-2, with his first goal of the contest with over 13 minutes to go in the game.
  • 1:13 later, Caldwell tied the game at three with a goal from Michael Brown.
  • Molloy concluded the game on a seven-goal rally. Sophomore Chris Delaney netted a hat-trick, Egan added two more goals, Downing scored his second of the evening, and graduate student Nick Del Giorno capped the 10-3 win with the final goal of the night.
 
Top Performances
  • Egan (three goals and one assist) and Delaney (three goals and one assist) totaled four points apiece.
  • Downing (two goals and one assist) tallied three points.
  • Ford and Del Giorno had a goal and an assist each.
  • In goal, Michaels made 15 saves to earn his fourth win of the season.
 
Up Next
The Lions will travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to play an ECC matchup against Saint Thomas Aquinas. Face-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
