Nine Drive in Runs in Baseball's Victory Over Felician, 14-4

Rutherford, N.J. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Felician Golden Falcons, 14-4, Tuesday afternoon at Overpeck County Park. The Lions improved to 17-5, while the Golden Falcons fell to 7-12.

How it Happened
  • Felician scored two runs in the second to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Garrett Scavelli hit an RBI double to cut the advantage to 2-1 in the third.
  • The Lions used an eight-run fourth inning to go ahead 9-2. Redshirt senior Thomas Brady tied the game with an RBI single. Senior Robby Keane came home on a wild pitch to give Molloy the lead, 3-2. Scavelli walked and junior David Franchi was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Senior Patrick Hoffman grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored graduate student Matt Overton, and sophomore Chris Einemann and Keane concluded the rally with RBI singles.
  • The home team scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame.
  • In the fifth, Franchi hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 10-4.
  • Senior Vincent Pecora hit an RBI double in the sixth, and Overton hit a solo home run in the seventh to make it 12-4.
  • In the ninth, sophomore Gavin McAlonie recorded a two-RBI single to bring the advantage to 14-4.
Top Performances
  • Scavelli (one hit), Franchi (one hit), Keane (two hits), and McAlonie (one hit) drove in two runs each.
  • Einemann collected four hits and one RBI, and Pecora and Brady tallied three hits and one RBI.
  • Overton blasted his fifth home run of the season, which is tied for the team lead.
  • Junior Robert Lucano threw five scoreless innings and struck out five to pick up his first victory of the season.
