Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team swept a doubleheader with the College of Staten Island Dolphins, 15-6 and 5-3, Saturday afternoon to extend its winning streak to six games. The Lions improved to 9-10 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Dolphins fell to 5-8 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Game One: Molloy 15, CSI 6
- Graduate student Courtney Greene kick-started the offense with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to give Molloy an early 1-0 lead.
- The Lions put together an eight-run second inning off of five consecutive hits. Junior Emma Bachman singled to right to bring in junior Steph Conrade, sophomore Chrissie Huhn drove in the next run with a single into center, senior Alex Burns followed with a single to right that brought in Huhn and Bachman, sophomore Katie Hand drove a double to the left-field fence that scored Burns, and Greene scored Hand with a double. Two additional runs came in off an error to propel the Lions ahead, 9-0.
- In the bottom half of the third, Burns blasted a two-run home run, and four runners came home on errors to push the Molloy lead to 15-0.
- Staten Island hung a six-spot in the top of the fourth, to bring the contest within nine, 15-6.
- Greene pitched three innings, allowed four hits, and three strikeouts to improve to 5-5 on the season.
- Freshman Natalie Moussa threw two innings and allowed two earned runs in relief.
Game Two: Molloy 5, CSI 3
- Molloy scored the first run of the contest off an RBI ground out from Burns in the bottom of the first.
- The Dolphins answered, tying the game in the top of the second off an RBI single from left fielder Mariah Carcano.
- In the bottom of the second, Bachman drove in junior Karsyn Eaton, and Huhn scored freshman Cheralyn Dusharme giving the Lions a, 3-1, advantage.
- In the fifth, Eaton hit a two-run home run to left field extending the Molloy lead to four, 5-1.
- The Dolphins tallied two runs in the top of the seventh, ending the contest, 5-3, in favor of the Lions.
- Senior Amanda King threw a complete game, struck out four, and allowed three runs to earn her fourth win of the season.
