Softball Picks Up Two Wins Over Queens to Open ECC Play

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Molloy softball team swept a doubleheader with the Queens College Knights, 9-6 and 4-1, to open East Coast Conference play. The Lions improved to 7-10 overall and 2-0 in conference, while the Knights fell to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in league play.
 
Game One: Molloy 9, Queens 6
  • The Lions jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning. Graduate student Courtney Greene, who has six home runs on the season, blasted a three-run home run to center field, and senior Marissa Nicoletti hit an RBI single to center field. 
  • After the Knights scored in the top of the second, freshman Alaina Spates launched an RBI double down the left-field line to make it 5-1. 
  • Queens plated four runs in the fourth to even the score, 5-5.
  • In the bottom half of the stanza, Spates, who was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored, put the maroon and white up 8-5 with a three-run homer.
  • Junior Emma Bachman recorded an RBI single in the sixth to increase the advantage to 9-5. 
  • The Knights scored a run in the top of the seventh. 
  • Junior Steph Conrade recorded three hits, and senior Alex Burns added two hits. 
  • In the circle, Greene threw a complete game and struck out two batters for her fourth victory of the season. 
Game Two: Molloy 4 , Queens 1
  • The Knights took a 1-0 in the top of the first. 
  • The Lions scored four runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Chrissie Huhn, who recorded two hits, Burns, and Spates, who tallied two hits, all tallied RBI singles. Junior Karsyn Eaton grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored Greene to make it 4-1. 
  • Senior Amanda King threw a complete game, gave up one run, on eight hits, and fanned five batters to improve to 3-4.
