Softball Sweeps Assumption

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team swept a doubleheader with the Assumption Greyhounds, 4-2 and 10-0, Sunday afternoon. The Lions improved to 5-10 overall, and the Greyhounds fell to 3-12.

Game One: Molloy 4, Assumption 2
  • The Greyhounds scored two runs in the top of the second.
  • In the bottom half of the frame, senior Alex Burns hit an RBI single to right, which cut the Assumption advantage to 2-1.
  • In the third, junior Karsyn Eaton and senior Marissa Nicoletti hit RBI singles to put the Lions ahead 3-2.
  • Graduate student Courtney Greene hit an RBI double in the fourth to increase Molloy's lead to 4-2.
  • In the circle, Greene threw a complete game, gave up two runs, on four hits, and struck out seven batters to pick up her second win of the season.
  • Junior Steph Conrade, Burns, and Nicoletti tallied two hits each.
Game Two: Molloy 10, Assumption 0
  • Greene put the maroon and white ahead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
  • The Lions used a six-run second inning to take an 8-0 advantage. Burns hit a two-RBI single to center, Greene, who drove in five runs and recorded her fifth home run of the season,  hit a three-run home run to right-center, and senior Amanda King hit a solo homer to left-center.
  • In the third, Burns, who recorded three RBIs, and sophomore Myah Cepeda hit sacrifice flies to make it 10-0.
  • King fanned four batters in four innings pitched for her second win of 2022.
