Men's Lacrosse Slips at SNHU

Manchester, N.H. – The Molloy men's lacrosse team fell to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen, 12-8, Wednesday afternoon at Penmen Stadium. Molloy fell to 2-5, while SNHU moved to 1-1.
 
How it Happened
  • SNHU got off to an early lead scoring the first two goals of the contest, with 7:14 to go in the first quarter.
  • Sophomore Mikey Rodin put the Lions on the scoreboard to tighten the game, 2-1, with 3:52 remaining in the opening stanza.
  • The home team reestablished its two-goal lead 42 seconds later, holding a 3-1 advantage.
  • Molloy ended the quarter with a three-goal rally, graduate student Jack Egan netted one, and graduate student Nick Del Giorno scored a pair giving the road team a, 4-3, lead heading into the second quarter.
  • The Penmen knotted the game at four, off a goal from Tim Krutz with under 11 minutes to play in the second quarter.
  • Over the next seven minutes of action, freshman goalie Christian Michaels made three key saves to keep the game tied. Egan rewarded his netkeeper with his second goal of the game, giving Molloy a, 5-4, lead with 4:45 to go in the first half.
  • SNHU scored the final goal of the first half. Bringing the game to a deadlock, 5-5, heading into halftime.
  • Goalkeeping was the story of the first 6:30 of the third quarter, as both goalies made a pair of saves to keep the game tied, until sophomore Ryan Downing broke through, scoring his first goal of the game to give Molloy a 6-5 advantage.
  • Two minutes later, the Penmen scored on a man-up advantage to bring the game even at six, with over six minutes to go in the third.
  • Freshman Robert Gazzano scored with 2:35 left in the quarter to push Molloy ahead, 7-6, heading into the fourth quarter.
  • In the first 30 seconds of the final stanza, Rodin tallied his second goal of the afternoon to give the Lions a two-goal advantage, 8-6.
  • The home team responded, netting a pair of goals to knot the game at eight with 6:47 to play.
  • SNHU closed the game scoring the final four goals to come from behind and defeat the Lions, 12-8.
Top Performances
  • Del Giorno (two goals and one assists) totaled three points.
  • Egan and Rodin tallied two goals apiece.
  • Sophomore Chris Delaney dished out a team-high two assists.
  • In goal, Michaels made 12 saves.

Molloy will travel to the nation's capital to open conference play against UDC Saturday, March 19. Face off is set for 12:00 p.m.
