Philadelphia, PA – The Molloy women's lacrosse team collected its fourth win of the season, defeating the Chestnut Hill Griffins, 18-3, at Victory Field Sunday afternoon. Molloy moves to 4-3 on the season, while Chestnut Hill falls to 1-3.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Hailey Dazzo found the back of the net 1:28 into the contest, giving the Lions an early 1-0 advantage.
- Over the next nine minutes of action, both teams played stout defense, but Chestnut Hill broke through, scoring its first goal of the contest to knot the game at one with over four minutes to go in the first quarter.
- Molloy ended the quarter scoring three consecutive goals. A pair coming from junior Amanda Weber and the third coming from Dazzo. The maroon and white led, 4-1, going into the second quarter.
- The Lions extended its lead to five, 6-1, in the second quarter following goals from Weber and junior Haille Ross with 10:48 to play in the first half.
- The Griffins scored its second goal of the contest to snap the Molloy run, bringing the home team within four, 6-2, with 3:10 remaining in the second quarter.
- Weber and sophomore Erin Murphy tallied the final two goals of the first half, giving the Lions an 8-2 lead going into halftime.
- The third quarter belonged to the road team, as Molloy got contributions from five different Lions to net six goals in the quarter. Weber, Murphy, Ross, freshman Megan Rugolo, and senior Lucy Emptage all tallied goals to give the Lions a, 14-2, lead going into the final quarter.
- A goal 30 seconds into the fourth quarter from the home team halted the Molloy run. Chestnut Hill cut the deficit to 11, 14-3.
- The maroon and white concluded the contest on a four-goal run, with Murphy scoring a pair, Weber netting her seventh, and freshman Alyssa Oddo scoring her first to cap the afternoon, 18-3.
Top Performances
- Weber tallied a career-high eight points, scoring seven goals and assisting on another, and picked up a career-high 13 ground balls.
- Murphy netted a career-high four goals.
- Ross and Dazzo added two goals apiece.
- Sophomore Ryan Smith led the defense with three ground balls and caused game-high four turnovers.
