Eaton, Greene Power Softball Past West Chester

Winter Haven, Fl. – The Molloy softball team swept a doubleheader with the West Chester Rams Sunday afternoon at the Diamond Plex. The Lions won the first game 7-5, and the second game 12-4. The maroon and white improved to 2-4, while the Rams moved to 8-6.

Game One: Molloy 7, West Chester 5
  • Graduate student Courtney Greene hit a two-run home run to right center to put the Lions ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
  • The Rams plated four runs in the second to go up 4-2.
  • Greene hit a sac fly, which scored junior Karsyn Eaton, to cut the lead to 4-3 in the third.
  • After West Chester scored in the top of the fourth, sophomores Chrissie Huhn, who collected two hits and scored one run,  and Katie Hand, who tallied three hits and scored one run, hit RBI singles to knot the score, 5-5.
  • Eaton and Greene, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, drove in a run with RBI singles to make it 7-5.
  • Greene threw a complete game and struck out four batters for her first win of the season.
Game Two: Molloy 12, West Chester 4 F/6
  • The Rams jumped ahead 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the first.
  • The Lions scored three runs in the third to go ahead 3-1. Hand and senior Marissa Nicoletti hit RBI singles, and senior Amanda King recorded an RBI double.
  • After West Chester scored in the bottom of the third, Molloy used a six-run fourth to take a 9-2 advantage. Eaton hit a gram slam to left field, and junior Akemi Poyer and Steph Conrade hit RBI singles.
  • Up 9-3, Greene hit a two-run homer to left to increase the maroon and white's lead to 11-3.
  • Junior Emma Bachman grounded out, which scored Poyer and made it 12-4 in the sixth.
  • King threw six innings and fanned five batters to move to 1-1 on the season.
