Women's Lacrosse Falls to Stonehill

 
Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The women's lacrosse team fell to the Skyhawks of Stonehill, 20-14, this afternoon at the RVC Sports Complex. Molloy dropped to 2-2 on the season, while Stonehill improved to 1-0.
 
How It Happened
  • The two teams traded goals in the first five minutes of action, junior Amanda Weber knotted the score at two with ten minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • Stonehill scored four consecutive goal to give them a 6-2 advantage heading into the second quarter.
  • Junior Joanna Mauceri netted her third goal of the season to bring the Lions within three, 6-3, with over 12 minutes to go in the first half.
  • In the next 53 seconds, the Skyhawks rallied off two consecutive goals from Kayla Conway to give them a 8-3 advantage.
  • Molloy went on to net the next three of four goals of the contest, led by a pair of goals coming from sophomore Hailey Dazzo to cut the deficit to three, 9-6, with 5:37 left in the second quarter.
  • The road team answered quickly, Emma Sullivan netted two goals to give the Skyhawks a, 11-6, advantage with over a minute remaining.
  • Junior Haille Ross netted her first goal of the game with 18 seconds remaining in the first half. Molloy trailed, 11-7, heading into halftime.
  • Following a goal from the Skyhawks, Dazzo found the back of the net for the third time to cut the deficit to four, 12-8, with over 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • Stonehill rallied off the next three goals to increase its lead to seven, 15-8, with 9:37 to go in the third.
  • Back-to-back goals from Dazzo, and freshman Sofia Quitoni brought the maroon and white within five, 15-10, with under seven minutes to go.
  • The road team closed the third quarter with a goal, giving the Skyhawks a, 16-10, lead heading into the final quarter of play.
  • The Skyhawks added two more goals to begin the fourth quarter, adding to their lead, 18-10, with over 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
  • Senior Megan Schiaffo scored on a man up opportunity to cut into the deficit. Molloy trailed, 18-11, with under nine minutes to play.
  • Molloy netted three consecutive goals from freshman Alexa Amorison, senior Abbie Bellport, and Dazzo. The Lions were behind, 19-14, with 2:29 left in the contest.
  • The road team netted the final goal of the game with 13 seconds remaining to win the game 20-14.
 
Top Performances
  • Dazzo netted five goals.
  • Schiaffo tallied four points (one goal and three assists).
  • Amorison and Bellport each added three points with one goal and two assists apiece.
  • Sophomore Ryan Smith picked up a game-high seven ground balls and caused a team-high four turnovers.
  • Sophomore Mary-Kate Sweeny made six saves in net.

Molloy will return to John A. Darcy Field Tuesday (March. 1) to take on Caldwell. Game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
