Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Molloy women's lacrosse team cruised past the Holy Family University Tigers, 14-8, at RVC Sports Complex. Molloy earns its second consecutive win, moving to 2-1 on the season, while Holy Family drops to 0-2.
How it Happened
- Senior Megan Schiaffo opened the game with a goal to give Molloy an early lead with 13:14 left in the first quarter.
- Both sides traded possessions until Yasmine Machlof tied the game with 3:22 to go in the opening frame.
- The Lions squeaked two goals in the final minutes thanks to a man-up goal from junior Alyssa Licata, off a pass from freshman Alexa Amorison, followed by a goal from sophomore Hailey Dazzo. Molloy led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
- Molloy struck early in the second quarter after a man-up goal from freshman Megan Rugolo. A minute later, Licata recorded her second goal of the game and was followed by a goal junior Amanda Weber giving Molloy a 6-1 advantage.
- Holy Family rattled off four-straight goals with Mackenzie Santucci scoring a hat-trick in the run to bring the Tigers within one with 5:39 left in the half.
- Weber snapped the Tiger run with a goal, sending Molloy up two at the half at 7-5.
- The Lions used another quick start to open the second half thanks to Webber securing the hat-trick followed by junior Joanna Mauceri tacking on another goal with 10:15 to go in the third with Molloy up 9-5.
- Holy Family brought the game within three with 2:58 remaining in the third, but Amorison found the back of net to put Molloy up 10-6 with 2:09 left in the quarter. The Lions led 10-7 at the end of the third.
- Dazzo opened the scoring in the fourth with her second goal of the day with 14:20 left in the game.
- The Tigers snuck one past the defense to get within three with 7:24 left in the game.
- Weber quickly responded with her fourth goal of the game and was followed by a goal from senior Abbie Bellport to put Molloy ahead 13-8 with 5:28 remaining.
- Dazzo collected one more goal, earning a hat-trick in the game, to end the contest 14-8 for Molloy.
