Lakewood, N.J. – The women's lacrosse team fell to the Lions of Georgian Court, 9-5, in the first game of the 2022 campaign Sunday. Molloy dropped to 0-1 on the season, while Georgian Court improved to 1-0.
How It Happened
- Georgian Court jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off a pair of goals from Shaine Sauter in the first three minutes of action.
- Molloy answered with a pair of goals of its own. Freshman Sofia Quitoni netted her first two collegiate goals in a 27 second span to knot the game at two.
- The home team reclaimed the lead, 4-2, with goals coming from Sabrina Chandler and Sauter.
- Senior Abbie Bellport found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to bring the maroon and white within one, 4-3.
- Molloy trailed 5-3 after one quarter of play.
- Junior Haille Ross kicked off the second quarter with a goal to close the deficit to 5-4.
- Georgian Court scored with 54 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
- 1:33 into the third quarter, Georgian Court extended its lead to three, 7-4.
- Two minutes later, Bellport netted her second goal of the contest on a man up opportunity to bring Molloy within two, 7-5.
- Georgian Court closed the game scoring the final two goals en route to the 9-5 victory.
